White Ginger Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/31/18I like the look of the contrast between flowers and background so far. Went darker with shadows on the petals. I changed the colors of the background I had originally planned. Will decide later how dark the lower left leaves will be. Upper left background is next.

White Ginger in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/29/18I have added an impression of the leaves and will be starting the background before continuing with the flowers. This will tell me how dark to go with the flower petals. This is a darkened photo so that you can see where things are.

White Ginger on Its Way
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/25/18I am starting the white ginger flowers with a light glaze of shadow color. It helps to know where the petals are.

White Ginger Experiment Next
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/21/18The white plumerias took me 60 hours to paint. I am going to experiment with a looser style with my next project which will be these white ginger blossoms. It will be 21 x 28 inches in size as well.

'Island Frangrance' is Done! 21x28"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/21/18The white Singapore plumeria painting is finished!

Singapore Homestretch
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/11/18A little more slow going at the end as I figure out the left side of the painting. The leaves of this variety of plumeria have dark green tops and lighter green undersides. However, I plan to tone down those 3 bright leaves bottom left. I started applying shadows on those light green leaves but don't like the look so those will be covered over.

Singapore A Different View
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/10/18This is the view of my Singapore plumeria watercolor as the sun poured through my window this morning. I simply had to share the photo!

Singapore Watercolor Continues
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/05/18I have added more dark background. It will help to determine how dark the flowers and leaves have to be. I love the contrast between dark and light.

Singapore Background
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/03/18I painted some of the background and a few leaves top left. It will be easier to see the flowers below.

Plumerias Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 10/01/18I painted more leaves. Some of them will go darker later. I have also changed the composition of the flowers top left and may have darker leaves behind them. I still intend not to have any of the blue sky. Centers of flowers had another layer of color.

Singapore Plumeria Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/27/18I started on the leaves toward the left. There will be another couple of layers to make them greener. These will have light green undersides and shiny green leaf tops which are typical of the Singapore variety of plumeria. The background will be very dark so it is a good idea to have lighter leaves than in the reference photo.

Singapore Plumeria in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/23/18I am painting right to left alternating between petals and leaves and darkening shadows as needed. The challenge is to keep the whites of the petals white! I added a flower to the middle of this grouping.

Singpore Plumeria Begins
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/19/18I have added another plumeria to the grouping on the right and started with the shadows on the petals. I then decided to paint the leaves behind the flowers so see if the petal shadows have to go darker and I can already see that they do.

Back to Plumeria
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/17/18The white Singapore variety of plumeria is common in the islands. This is my reference photo. I plan to have a very dark background and will have to go lighter with the leaves. I may be adding or changing the flower arrangement as I go. The painting will be around 20x28."

by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/13/18I have finished the Hanalei Lookout watercolor and will be ready to photograph and make prints for the fairs. Prints will be 8x18" to fit 10x20 frames after I mat them.

Hanalei Valley Lookout
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/12/18This 8x18" watercolor is almost done. Reminder that it is as viewed in 2010 when the trees in the foreground were not as tall as they are today.
