I started another landscape for my Kauai panorama series. My photos from 2010 are being used for reference because the trees at the lookout have grown since then and part of the view is blocked. The blue patches have masking fluid applied where there will be water.

The storm is gone. The sun is out finally and I have finished the Waipo'o Falls at Waimea Canyon painting. Many visitors have hiked up to where the falls drops into a pond and then jogs right and down to the bottom. This painting will be available in 8x18 prints and will be matted to fit a 10x20 frame.  I am doing a series of these panoramic Kauai landscapes.

This is a view of Waipo'o Falls at the Waimea Canyon. It can be seen by walking up the dirt hill to the left of the official Canyon lookout from the parking lot or from a view site along the highway. There is also a hike that will take you to the top of the falls.

Adding close up vegetation but not too detailed.  Also another layer of ocean color with a hint of the horizon line near the top.

I am planning to paint some loose Kauai landscapes in this size.  Many of the local landscapes are better shown as panoramic views. It will also be a good exercise to paint looser and finish quicker!

Differences from the last progress photo are small - fins, barbels (whiskers), eyes, hint of scales.  I also removed some of the blue color on the left side.

I darkened or changed spots on several of the koi and added more movement to the water. A few more touchups and we can call this one finished.  I like the feeling of movement in this painting.

I have been working on the water movement around the koi and having water wash over a couple of them. The red on the tail of the koi upper right has been removed. I am still figuring out the color of the fish in the center. Not sure it will end up looking the same.

First layer of the background is in. I am trying to show how the water moves as the fish swim around in it. I don't have the water moving over the koi yet.

I won't be getting fancy with the names of the koi paintings in the future. It will be easier to keep track of, photograph, and print if names are simple. This painting will have seven fish. I have 4 koi in and another started.  The water will be flowing around and over them so koi color will be adjusted later.

This painting is almost done.  I am going to keep it this light but add another layer of yellow and orange in the those areas.

I roughed in the foreground and the water after developing the sky and clouds. I will probably add color to those before going back to the sky which is much too pale at this stage.
