by Marcia Minnichhofer on 02/25/19Back to flowers. This is the beginning of the colorful hanging heliconia.

'Rough Sea' is Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 02/20/19The 22x30" wave painting is done and ready for this Saturday's fair at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville.

"Rough Sea"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 02/14/19This one is almost done. Still in the process of moving, cleaning, renovating.

Another Watercolor Wave Painting Underway 22x30"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 02/03/19Easing back into painting. These waves were at Sunset Beach on Oahu. Oftentimes, the waves roll in close to each other and that is the case here. I am using larger brushes and painting loosely.

Wave Series II Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/10/18This watercolor in the Wave Series is done! I decided to stop before it got too tight. I am using very few colors for the waves so far.

Wave Series II Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/07/18Still under construction. A little more detailed than I had originally planned but shaping into a surf-able barrel wave.

Wave Series II
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/06/18Another watercolor big wave started, 22x30". Nice and loose.

Watercolor Wave is Done! 22x30"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/03/18Well, this was a fun one to paint! Nice and loose so unlike my usual realistic flowers. I plan to do a few more in the wave series.

Watercolor Wave Series Started 22x30"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/02/18I have started a wave series in watercolor. This is the first and is a great exercise in painting loosely with no sketching beforehand. I envision the paintings to be of wave closeups and will probably leave the surfers out of them.

Last Two Fairs for the Year
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/29/18It's been a fun year of fairs. There will be 2 more in December.
Soft Plumeria Simple and Done 22x30"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/29/18I decided to keep this watercolor very simple. I could have gone in and added shadows and contours to the petals and may do so later. Let's see how people react to the painting at the last two fairs for the year.

Soft Plumeria Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/28/18This should get finished today which is a positive for this style - finishing quicker. I also like the looseness, so very different from my usual painting style.

Soft Plumeria
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/27/18The previous painting has been abandoned and may be revisited later. I have started on another plumeria watercolor in a softer style. Painting is being done without any sketching first which allows for looseness of the blossoms and background. The stems in between will be more defined and provide the dark contrast against the white petals.

Plumeria Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/10/18Started on a dark background. Let's see where this one goes. No real plan in mind. It's fun to experiment, knowing that it could end up being trashed!

Plumeria Experiment
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/09/18I am applying paint loosely, then outlining with a water soluble graphite pencil. This one might end up not seeing the public eye but it is fun to try a different style.

Plumeria Abstract Style?
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/07/18I am not sure how abstract this one will be but my intentions are there at the start! I may be adding some water soluble black ink later, something new to me.

White Ginger is Done!
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/05/18I am calling this watercolor painting of white ginger blossoms finished. I like the contrast of light blossoms against the dark background. In the end, I decided to define the leaves on the right.

White Ginger
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 11/01/18I have eliminated a petal at the top center. It looked like an extra petal on the flower on the upper right. Luckily, I was able to paint background color over that area. I have to make sure that I keep the light colored leaves on the right to imply strong sunlight on that area. The painting will have an abstract look to that side.
