Mahaulepu Loose First Layer
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/12/18I didn't put as many details as I usually do for painting florals.

Mahaulepu Beach
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/10/18This is my reference photo for the next painting of a view looking down at Mahaulepu Beach. I am planning for a sunnier day.

Tunnel of Trees
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/09/1816x20" 'Tunnel of Trees' is done. This was fun to paint!

Tunnel of Trees Continuing
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/08/18Darker layers will go in but this is what we have so far.

Tunnel of Trees in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/06/18I started developing the left side of the painting. Am driving thru the tunnel today and will see how dark I need to go with the painting.

Tunnel of Trees More Vegetation
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/05/18I am tying to keep this painting bright and cheerful with light coming thru between trees. When there is no bright sun in the area, it can get pretty dark on this road and not that interesting to paint or look at. The trees will go a little darker in the end. Sunshine is coming thru the trees on the left side. I have masked the center lines on the road so we know it is a road and not a walking path.

January Artisan Fairs
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 01/02/18I will be at the following fairs in January. Hope to see you there if you are vacationing on Kauai.
Tunnel of Trees Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/31/17Trees placed and first layer of road shadows applied.

Tunnel of Trees 16x20" - Here We Go!
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/31/17There is a lot of vegetation in this one. I have started with the area on the sides of the road. This will eventually go darker. I am going to be erasing the pencil lines up top where the canopy of leaves will form an arch.

Tunnel of Trees
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/30/17This is a photo taken with my cellphone while I drove through the tunnel of trees in Koloa. Will try to make it more interesting in the next painting.

Turtles at Play is Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/29/17I always tell myself if I begin to fiddle here and there, I should call the painting done or it is going to transform into another painting. I have softened the foam on the left and darkened the turtles. I may revisit this one later.

Turtles at Play - Adding Turtles
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/26/176 turtles so far. Rocks darkened. More work on the water is next.

'Turtles at Play' Masking Fluid Off
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/25/17Looks like a challenge ahead to make the foam realistic after the masking fluid was peeled off. May add a couple more turtles at the same time.

Turtles at Play on Christmas Day!
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/25/17Merry Christmas! Painting loosely. Will get the first layer of the rear ocean in before removing the masking fluid.

Turtles at Play
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/24/17This is an experiment with the masking fluid to save the white of the foam. I used a stiff brush and applied the fluid as if I was brushing in foam with oil paint. Doing foam with watercolor is not the easiest thing to accomplish.

'Vibrance' - Orchids Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/19/17Calling this one 'Vibrance.' Love the orange and greens against each other.

Last Two Fairs for the Year
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/17/17It has been a fun year with 3 or 4 fairs each month. Just love meeting the visitors, many of whom have timeshares and visit every year.
Orchids Still
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/17/17I have been working on the stems and leaves on the left and will move on to the two buds top left before going back to the main orchids. I am liking the sharpness of the shadows and highlights on the leaves on the left and will probably not soften edges.

Orchids Developing Background More
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/15/17I darkened the background more and will move on to the stem holding the orchids next. The background will be even more dark in the end.

Orchids Background Started
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 12/14/17I have started the background and will go darker with it before returning to the leaves and orchids.
