"Homegrown" Pineapple is Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 06/07/18My pineapple watercolor is done. I went darker with the background in the end.

"Homegrown Pineapple" in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 06/02/18I added some reddish color to the background and went darker on the lower half. Pineapple's leaves are next. This non-acidic variety of pineapple is smaller than the ones you see in the store and has straight-edged leaves.

Finishing "Homegrown Pineapple"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/30/18Someone at a recent fair asked if I had a pineapple painting. I dug out this unfinished watercolor and will complete it. My son planted the top portion of a pineapple we had eaten and that plant produced this one for us! This morning the upper background was all white!

'Poipu Beach Sunset' is Done! 16x20"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/29/18This watercolor was painted with just a handful of colors and the lightest areas are the white of the paper. I really enjoyed painting the sky loose and impressionistic.

Poipu Sunset Home Stretch
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/29/18This painting should be finished today. Will go darker with midline trees and darken sky, water, and sand but not as dark as I had originally planned. I definitely want to get more of the orange color in.

Poipu Sunset in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/27/18I am going darker in stages and have begun painting the coconut trees that are silhouetted in the distance.

Poipu Sunset A Layer of Dark Clouds
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/24/18I added layers of darker paint in the sky and will move on to first layers of the water and land next before returning to the sky.

'Koi Pond' Completed
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/15/18It is time to call the koi painting done. I added more yellow to the last fish, darkened the red patches on the second fish, put the tiny fish up top in shadow, added a hint of a stem on the lily pad on the left and touched up here and there. Time to stop. I am quite pleased with this looser style which is easier to do when painting water.

Koi Pond Almost Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/13/18I will let the 'Koi Pond' painting sit for a couple of days and see what needs adjustment or touch up. I like the water lilies light but may soften the edges.

Koi Pond in Progress
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/08/18I am wanting fish with more color especially since I noticed some reddish flowers hanging from the branches reflected on the water. The water will go darker as I progress. The blue sky will be reflected on the water as well.

Koi Pond Tree Reflection
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/02/18Having fun laying down the reflection of the tree on the background water. Nice and loose, almost impressionistic. I still have the masking fluid under the paint but added more white holes.

Koi Pond Sketched
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/01/18I wanted to show you the sketch before I transfer it to the watercolor paper. I will not transfer the highlights of the water but this sketch gives me an idea of where things are including the reflection of the tree leaves overhead. The middle fish will be moved over to the right slightly. You can use the sketch as point of reference because the lines won't be so visible on the painting. I haven't really done much painting of water except for blowing the paint around in the "Two Koi" watercolor. This will be fun!

Koi Pond Challenge
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 04/30/18Ready for a challenge. I will combine the two reference photos. The background may not be as dark. Those are water lilies up top in the photo on the left. Not sure I will "blow" paint around as in my other koi painting.
